JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, responsible for providing support to a large workforce and management team, overseeing all work related and non-work related medical accommodations and leaves, including WCB/WSIB, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, and other medical restrictions.

Required Education/Certification/Licensure:



  • A relevant college diploma or university degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.


Required Experience:



  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in Disability Claims Management or WCB Case Management is required, preferably in the automotive manufacturing sector.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Adhere to and follow all company health & safety policies, practices and rules for the workplace;

  • Comply with legislative requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, including the Duties of a worker, Supervisor and Duties of the Employer as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, s. 27 and 28 and all other applicable legal requirements

  • Develop, coordinate and implement Modified Work Plans resulting from WSIB, LTD and other disability related absences

  • Conduct negotiations between the injured employee, the WSIB, the treating physician, the employee's immediate Supervisor, and the union to facilitate early and safe return to work

  • Communicate with insurance carriers and Claims Adjudicators on Short Term Disability cases and appropriate health care providers to determine changes in the status of injured/ill employees' level of disability.

  • Represent the Company and employee interests; act as the primary liaison between the employee, insurance carriers and front line Supervisor/Managers, to encourage healthy rehabilitation and early intervention, while monitoring current return to work plans.

  • Prepare performance statistics on modified work program

  • Represent the Company at legal proceedings, if required.

  • Other related duties and assistance to the department as required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Experience in Return-to-Work planning and facilitation

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of disability legislation and regulations, including Duty to Accommodate, Workers' Compensation Act, and Human Rights Legislation.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with compassion and understanding in difficult situations.

  • Ability to balance the conflicting priorities of stakeholders and collaborate to find solutions.

  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, and Outlook at a proficient level.

  • Prior unionized experience would be an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments. Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition. Frequently sits, walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stoops, crouches; and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs. within the office and manufacturing plant environment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
