Warranty Engineer

Job Introduction
Manages warranty projects initiated by OEM customer. Provides warranty performance feedback to engineering teams, divisions and customers for the products designed, manufactured and sold to OEM customers. Generally completes the following duties and responsibilities with the support of senior Quality personnel.
Major Responsibilities



  • Champion for all warranty projects initiated by the customer that require Application Engineering support (e.g. FCA GIMs).

  • Works with Quality Assurance team where appropriate to address product issues and customer projects.

  • Monitors OEM warranty databases for product lines supplied.

  • Analyzes warranty failure modes with engineering teams and divisions and makes appropriate contact with dealers to understand issues.

  • Provides team and suppliers with timely identification of warranty trends/concerns.

  • Initiates root cause analysis using appropriate OEM problem solving methodologies and manages suppliers' root cause analyses.

  • Utilizes data to prioritize and focus team efforts on reducing warranty costs and warranty cost recovery exposure.

  • Performs warranty reporting on a monthly basis and maintains open issues lists.

  • Attends design reviews, program reviews, and financial reviews as necessary.

  • Participates in creating design solutions to address warranty issues.

  • Works with Product Engineers and Program Managers to expeditiously determine countermeasures that Magna will commit to.

  • Assures robustness of resolution actions (i.e. tested like used, elimination of escape and occurrence paths, fix will not create new risk).

  • Understands all corrective actions in process that address warranty issues and communicates them to the customer.

  • Assures that warranty sharing objectives and goals are being met and are not at risk.

  • Assists team with concern resolution reports (e.g. 6 Panels/8D's-7Steps-5Phases).

  • Performs warranty reviews at customer warranty review centers.

  • Assists with prioritizing the completion of warranty tasks and the resolution of issues to ensure compliance to program deliverables.

  • Provides Management with historical warranty data, status of key issues, and any applicable financials.

  • Performs warranty performance forecasting to outline potential risks to program teams.

  • Maintains all appropriate documentation in a readily retrievable format.

  • Communicates in a timely manner - warranty activities with Program Team, Manufacturing, and customer where appropriate.

  • Meets with suppliers to identify potential warranty recovery risks.

  • Manages warranty recovery process between customers, division and supplier.

  • Participates in PFMEA development and MPS studies for new seat programs.

  • Documents appropriate Lessons Learned documents.


Knowledge and Education



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent engineering experience.


Skills and Competencies



  • Advanced mathematical skills to enable ability to make warranty predictions.

  • Working knowledge of advanced statistical methods, APQP, and Root Cause Analysis.

  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks within and across department to meet established and changing deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills: verbal, written and technical presentations.


Work Environment
Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments. Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition. Frequently walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stoops, crouches; and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs. Occasionally my lift and carry up to fifty (50) lbs.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
